ABOUT THE MOVIE
Thor: Ragnarok is a 2017 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
The film is the third installment in the Thor film series and the seventeenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the film follows the God of Thunder as he attempts to stop the destruction of Asgard by the goddess of death, Hela.
The film begins with Thor imprisoned by the fire demon Surtur, who tells him that Ragnarok, the end of Asgardian civilization, is coming. Thor escapes and returns to Asgard, only to find that his adopted brother Loki has been impersonating their father, Odin.
Together, they find Odin in Norway, where he reveals that Hela, the goddess of death and his firstborn daughter, is about to return to Asgard and destroy it.
During their confrontation with Hela, Thor is thrown into space and ends up on the planet Sakaar, where he is captured by the Grandmaster, a powerful alien who forces him to fight in gladiatorial battles.
Thor meets the Hulk, who has been trapped on Sakaar since the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and convinces him to join his fight against Hela. Together with Loki and Valkyrie, a former Asgardian warrior, they escape from Sakaar and return to Asgard.
Upon their return, they find that Hela has taken over Asgard and is preparing to use the Bifröst, a magical portal, to conquer the other realms. In the final battle, Thor and his allies fight against Hela and her army of undead soldiers.
With the help of Loki and a resurrected Odin, Thor is able to stop Hela and save Asgard, but at a great cost.
Thor: Ragnarok features an ensemble cast, including Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster.
The film received critical acclaim for its humor, visual effects, and performances, and grossed over $854 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in the Thor franchise.
In terms of production, Thor: Ragnarok was filmed primarily in Australia, with additional filming taking place in New York City and Norway.
The film's score was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, while the soundtrack features songs by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and others.
The film's themes include family, identity, and the consequences of past actions. Thor must confront his feelings towards his father and brother, as well as his own sense of responsibility as a leader.
Meanwhile, Hela's desire for power and domination is driven by her resentment towards Odin and her own status as an outcast in Asgardian society.
Overall, Thor: Ragnarok is a thrilling and entertaining addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with memorable characters, stunning visuals, and a strong sense of humor.
It represents a significant departure from the previous Thor films, embracing a more comedic and colorful tone that has since become a hallmark of the franchise.
